- There is a rich malty and fruity aroma with an added medium to high hop aroma present in this style of stout. It has a rather malty flavor with a full sweet malt character, with a medium-high to high floral hop flavor. There is a very slight bitterness from the hops, but this should balance with the malt flavor. [5]

- Milk/Sweet Stouts are usually dark brown to black and opaque or sometimes clear in appearance with a creamy looking tan or brown head. [1]
- Milk/Sweet stouts are characterized by a moderate roasted grain aroma with coffee or chocolate tones and essentially no hop aroma. The roasted grains and malts provide strong coffee and/or chocolate flavors that are counterbalanced by a medium to high sweetness from the addition of lactose derived from whey. There is a moderate bitterness from the hops, but lower than that of dry stouts. [1, 2]

- These stouts have a have a mainly coffee-like aroma from the combination of roasted barley and roasted malts. A slight cocoa aroma may also be present, but there is almost no hop aroma. The flavor is characterized by a moderate roasted taste, with moderate acidic sourness and a medium to high bitterness. The roasted grains provide a coffee-like finish with possible unsweetened chocolate flavors and creaminess. [1]
